Be a Guardian Angel for a Mother-to-Be

Every new mother needs answers and guidance. It’s especially urgent for a mother from an area where she is five times more likely to lose her baby. Proper medical care and nutrition are important, but emotional pressures might still tip the scales against her…and her baby.

Your encouragement, support, and wisdom can prevent unhappy endings in our Motherhood Mentoring Initiative. All you need is a long-distance calling plan to get involved from anywhere in the U.S.!

We serve women between 16 and 21 (and possibly older) who are referred by the Health Department and Central Hillsborough Healthy Start:

69% are unmarried
37% have less than a 12th Grade education
21% are 19 or younger

However, 100% can benefit from someone who looks past the percentages and sees the possibilities. As a Mentor, you can help a new mother stay positive while other services help her stay healthy.

Your caring and concern could mean the world to her, and provide the strength for her to mean the world to her baby. We make it easy for a little TLC to go a long way:

You only need to spend an hour per week on the telephone from the comfort of home
The person you mentor is going through stuff that you can relate to, but it isn’t too serious
You make every call according to your schedule; they can never call without your consent
The person you mentor only knows you by first name (and vice-versa)
You know what they’re going through in advance; they know what you bring to the table
We’re there if the conversation goes off track, and have access to professional mental health expertise if necessary
Your dialogue only lasts as long as you think it’s doing any good
